Finding Support, Finding My Way

NA NA
Seeking therapy is not something that is part of my upbringing, let alone in my culture. I unexpectedly have lived through some traumatic events in my life this year, that not only affected me, but my entire family. I was forced to make drastic changes in my life, while a part of me didn't want to do that. I questioned how I would deal with this new life and the changes without me mentally breaking down. I felt like I didn't know who I was anymore and just living through the motions. A part of me wanted to "wait and see..." Then I realized what am I waiting to see? My friends and family have been supportive, but they saw that I needed professional help. I utilized our caregiver benefits and found a Lyra therapist. It's been a couple of weeks since starting therapy and it took several months before I took the first step. What I've learned is that I need to start dealing with my emotions to initiate a road to recovery and that therapy that can't bring back my old life. Therapy is helping me see things in a different perspective and along with my faith, I hope to accept the changes and move on with my new life by taking one step at a time.
