When the pandemic hit, I applied to work in the ICU--where I saw there was the greatest need. As I learned more about CDC recommended therapies and the censorship of known therapies, I struggled with watching elderly die in isolation knowing full well that effective therapies were being withheld due to profit based governmental recommendations. When vaccine mandates were introduced, God opened my eyes to the truth and I was able to connect the dots. Seeking a religious exemption began my journey in reading the Bible and further enhanced my journey in seeking a nursing career in which I truly believed in my work. I had to quit the ICU because my hands were tied by regulatory guidelines and profit based recommendations that kept patients sick. This has been empowering but has created tremendous moral distress. I'm not sure where I'm going to go from here, but my awareness of the money transfer from tax dollars to pharmaceutical companies with Medicare patients being the victims of episodic care encounters without consideration of the context of their own lives continues to deepen.
